Waboost and Green.dat.AI: Harnessing AI to Revolutionize Water Management in Agriculture
Ljubljana, Slovenia – Waboost, European leader in water treatment technologies, is proud to announce the progress and success of its pilot project within the Horizon Europe-funded Green.dat.AI initiative
This "Agri-Food Smart Water Management" project is redefining how water is: monitored, managed, and optimized across agricultural landscapes by harnessing cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
With more than 46% of annual water consumption in the European Union dedicated to agricultural purposes, it is a critical priority to enhance the efficiency of irrigation practices. Waboost innovative approach integrates real-time sensor data, public environmental data sources, and advanced AI models to provide farmers with predictive analytics and actionable insights for optimizing water usage. Through AI-powered dashboards, stakeholders receive real-time data on water quality parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature, enabling more-informed and sustainable decision-making.
“Our collaboration with Green.dat.AI marks a pivotal moment for Waboost. We are addressing one of the most pressing environmental challenges—sustainable water usage in agriculture."
Boštjan Veronik, CEO of Waboost
Innovation
Waboost pilot features a network of remote IoT-enabled sensor stations deployed across agricultural settings. These stations continuously collect water quality data, which is then processed by AI models trained to forecast water conditions and generate early warnings. This system empowers farmers and land managers to adapt to climate variability and reduce water waste, making a direct contribution to the European Green Deal objectives.
Key project highlights
Real-time monitoring of irrigation water from multiple sources.
Integration of local sensor data with open government datasets.
Predictive analytics to anticipate and address water quality issues.
AI-generated recommendations for optimal water usage.
By combining our ultrafine bubble water treatment solutions with AI and real-time data analytics, we are not only improving crop yields but also ensuring more efficient and environmentally responsible farming practices.
Results
Up to
15%
reduction in irrigation water
Up to
10%
increase in crop yield efficiency
First results from the pilot indicate an estimated 10–15% reduction in irrigation water usage through optimized scheduling and reduced redundancy, up to 10% increase in crop yield efficiency, attributed to better water quality and timely irrigation based on AI insights.
These outcomes underline the potential of AI-driven water management not only in conserving resources but also in boosting agricultural productivity sustainably.
This effort is a cornerstone of Green.dat.AI, an EU project developing energy-efficient, AI-ready data spaces across sectors including smart energy, agriculture, mobility, and finance.
By participating in this initiative, Waboost demonstrates its commitment to pioneering eco-innovative technologies that support climate resilience and smart resource management.
“We see this as just the beginning,” adds Veronik. “Our goal is to scale this platform, integrate even more data sources, and deliver comprehensive water management solutions globally. This is how AI and sustainability converge to make a real, lasting impact.”
